Sunday Night at the #Oscars
Jimmy Kimmel kicked the night off with lines like…”Black people saved N.A.S.A and white people saved jazz.” Poking fun of Best Picture Nominees Hidden Figures and LaLa Land. Halle Berry’s hair took on a life of its own. Meryl Streep gets a standing ovation for being “overrated” (Trump Tweet).
Mahershala Ali (that fine chocolate specimen of a man) wins Best Supporting Actor for Moonlight. He started out thanking his teachers and ended by thanking is wife who just gave birth to their baby girl. Katherine Johnson received applause while some fought back the tears. Standing by her side was Janelle Monae rocking that dress 👗!!!
Viola Davis (Best Supporting Actress) finally wins The Academy Award that has eluded her for so long. She spoke of the brilliant playwright August Wilson and also how acting is the only profession that celebrates the stories of our lives. Sting gives a haunting performance with a message at the end urging journalists to stand up to authority.
Now I wish I could give you a play by play of what happened next. However, I fell asleep 😴 like many of the rest of you. Not because of the pace of the show. I have a day job to report to at 8 am. I woke up to squeals of delight as Moonlight took the stage for best picture. I heard a joke mentioning Lala Land so I googled to see what happened and apparently Lala Land was announced in error. Never in the history of the Oscars has this happened, but there’s a first time for everything.
I wish I could say that Denzel Washington got that coveted 3rd Oscar and that Lin-Manuel Miranda received the EGOT. But alas it was not meant to be on this night. In a nutshell it was a wild night!!!
