Kung Fu Kenny, Cardi B, a kid from Hawaii and The Notorious HRC! #Grammys
Last night the music industry came together to honor the artists who create the soundtracks of our lives. Back in the day prom night was an absolute disaster where we ended up eating at White Castle (long story for another time), we remember dancing to Blackstreet’s Don’t Leave Me. Great songs are tied to memories, whether listening to sad love songs after a breakup or the playlist you made for that cross country road trip. Songs reflect the mile markers of our lives.
This year the Grammy’s turned 60 and went savage af. They trolled the hell out of Donald Trump with mock audio auditions for the Fire and Fury book. Narrator choices included DJ Kaled, Hillary R. Clinton and last but certainly not least bird calling ass Cardi B. Check social media or You Tube, your gonna choke on your popcorn 🍿 laughing at this one. That damn bird call is priceless!
Performers showed up and out last night. Kendrick Lamar opened the show with an energetic, powerful, raw and politically charged performance featuring U2 and Dave Chappelle. Lady Gaga and Sam Smith both delivered equally inspiring and angelic performances. Bruno Mars and Cardi B turned time back to 1992 and made us dance while singing their hit finesse. In honor of the #timesup/ #metoo movement Kesha gave a vulnerable and emotional performance of the song Praying.
Bruno Mars won the night going 6 for 6 including the highly coveted song of the year, record of the year and album of the year. Bruno dedicated his album of the year award to legendary songwriters Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Teddy Riley and Babyface. Kendrick Lamar took home 5 Grammys including Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Album and Best Video. To the women of Rap nominated this year y’all are doing amazing things. Rapsody don’t stop til you are solidified top 5. And Cardi needs a Carol Burnett-esque variety show. Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) takes home an R&B Grammy and is well on his way to an EGOT. Shawn (Jay Z) Carter is honored with the Icon award. The only thing that had us scratching our head . . . Where in the world 🌎 is Ed Sheeran? If you find him let him know he won two Grammys last night.
