Beta Delta Kappa
Beyoncé’s Homecoming is a visually brilliant celebration of black culture, pride, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The documentary written, directed and executive produced by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter chronicles the preparation, challenges and triumphs of the first black woman to headline Coachella. Mrs. Carter discusses postponing her 2017 Coachella performance due to pregnancy, delivering the twins via emergency c-section, and breastfeeding between rehearsals. Homecoming is a window into the discipline, work and collaborative effort that catapults great concerts into epic events.
An entire year after being blindsided by Beychella at 3am this documentary is truly a homecoming. B talks about rehearsing at Texas Southern University with Destiny’s Child, her love of “The Battle of the Bands” and always wanting to go to an HBCU. The film incorporates both spoken and written words from notable black writers and leaders. The work also highlights prominent HBCUs throughout. We got to relive the artistry, choreography, instrumentation and the sheer black excellence on display for the whole world to see.
Homecoming managed to capture on film the spirit, unity, love and excitement that inducted us all into Beta Delta Kappa Incorporated. The yellow and pink Coachella performances were woven together by Alexander Hammer with seamless transitions and beautiful movement. Beyoncé Knowles is an icon living and proof positive that making a living at what you love makes you fulfilled, but mastering your craft makes you a legend.
